Save Our Pantry Meeting

The WYO HELP food pantry in Torrington is a shopper's choice food pantry that operates exclusively on donations. It is available for shopping once a month on Fridays by appointment. WYO HELP is seeking your input to determine if the food pantry should continue to operate. While we know the need continues, we need to determine if there is enough financial support and volunteer support to continue.
We need to secure $35,500 to operate the pantry for a year. That is $2,959 a month. We need to know that we have the monthly income to continue operating as we must use part of those funds to pay for our location and administrative costs. The costs breakdown as follows:
Food Purchase - $12,000 a year
Pantry Rent - $13,200 a year
Pantry Utilities - $6,000 a year
Pantry Supplies - $2,000 a year
Administrative costs - $2,303 a year
We are currently averaging $1,200 a month when December is removed from the equation. December donations are nice, but we need sufficient monthly donations to cover facility costs.
We need the following volunteer positions in order to continue operating.
Volunteer Coordinator - Schedules volunteers and provides oversight
Pantry Coordinator - Works with other volunteers to make shelves are stocked, food is ordered, and backstock is organized. Also works with volunteers on day of pantry to serve our shoppers.
Food Rescue Volunteer - Works with local grocery stores to secure donated foods.
Pantry Volunteers - Help our shoppers with their shopping, weighing food to be taken, and help carry out groceries.
Fundraising Volunteer - We need someone to help bring in the donations we need on a regular basis.
Without a firm commitment from the community to support the pantry we will likely close our food pantry in June or July of 2025.
