Food Pantry Volunteer – Grocery Rescue AssistantPosition Summary

- The Grocery Rescue Assistant helps recover surplus food from local grocery stores and transports it to the food pantry. This role ensures donated food is picked up safely and efficiently, contributing to reducing food waste and supporting community members in need.
- Pick up rescued food donations from designated grocery store partners on scheduled days.
- Safely transport donations to the food pantry in a timely manner.
- Communicate with store staff and pantry team to coordinate pickup schedules.
- Inspect donated items for condition and food safety.
- Help unload, sort, and record donated food items upon arrival at the pantry.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle for transporting food.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (if using personal vehicle).
- Ability to lift boxes and food items up to 40 lbs.
- Punctual, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Friendly and professional when interacting with store and pantry staff.
- Committed to following food safety and handling procedures (training provided).
- 1–2 hours per grocery rescue run, depending on location and volume.
- Frequency can vary depending on volunteer availability and store schedule.
