Volunteer Food Pantry Event Planner – Job Description
Position Summary
  • The Volunteer Event Planner coordinates special events within the community to distribute food and raise awareness about food insecurity. This role helps extend the pantry's reach beyond its regular hours and fosters greater public understanding and engagement in fighting hunger.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize community food distribution events in coordination with pantry leadership.
  • Identify appropriate locations, secure necessary permits, and manage event logistics.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and community organizations to support event needs.
  • Coordinate food transport, storage, setup, and distribution at events.
  • Develop outreach materials and public messaging in coordination with staff.
  • Promote events through flyers, social media, and local partnerships.
  • Educate the public about food insecurity during events through signage, handouts, or guest speakers.
  • Ensure events reflect the pantry’s mission and are welcoming and inclusive.
  • Track event attendance, outcomes, and feedback for future planning.
Qualifications
  • Strong organizational and event-planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
  • Comfortable working with the public and diverse community groups.
  • Creative and resourceful in problem-solving.
  • Able to lift and move supplies (up to 25 lbs) during event setup and teardown.
  • Passionate about addressing food insecurity and engaging the community.
Time Commitment
  • 5–10 hours per month, with more time needed during active event weeks.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required depending on event timing.
Training Provided
  • Orientation to pantry mission and goals. Ongoing support from pantry staff and access to planning templates and materials.
